Lilt Line is coming to WiiWare thanks to Gaijin Games, but the developer is Different Cloth. No word on when this game will hit, but it looks like it’s going to take my money as soon as it does!

“The beauty part [of gameplay] is the intrinsic part, whether you’re a social game or you’re Gears of War or Counter-Strike. We want to be making games, like other artists try to make books or music, that make people better.” - Chris ‘Wii = Cubes duct taped together’ Hecker
Yeah, I’m still holding that grudge against Hecker. No, I don’t think I’ll ever let it go. Yes, I know that’s an unhealthy way to live!
Check out the full summary of Hecker’s GDC session here

Once again, from Mr. Casamassina…
And Wii MotionPlus? Word on the street is that the heat from your hands de-calibrates the sensor.
Sometimes I feel like the only one that doesn’t mind recalibrating the MotionPlus. Some people find it such a hassle. Well, at least we have some sort of idea as to why we need to recalibrate from time to time.

Coming from our friend Matt Casamassina…
…at GDC I struck a bit of a niblet when a developer said Nintendo told him it would be ready to roll with Wii 2 in 2012. Anybody with a brain would probably guess as much, but it is even so always refreshing to hear so from a semi-official source.
Well, that’s awfully forthcoming of a developer, isn’t it? Nintendo isn’t going to be too happy about comments like these, even though there’s no real ‘meat’ to grab onto. Still, this is the first time we’ve heard a developer comment on a Wii 2 release period.

A build of The Grinder for the 360 is being shown at GDC behind closed doors, and it’s not the first-person title we all expected it to be. Check out all the crazy changes that the 360 version brought about.
- top-down shooter
- all four players share the same screen
- still wild west setting with vampires, imps, werewolves and others
Right now, it’s undecided if the Wii version is going to change to the top-down approach that the 360 version is taking. Would you rather the game stay FPS, or would you like to see it go top-down as well?

A portion of a WiiLoveIt review…
It’s a decent package for what it is, and it is only $5 after all. It’s recommended that you consider the major flaws of the game and if you still feel that your child/children might still enjoy it, give it a purchase, as it’s quite likely that they will.

On Wii:
Our extensive retail channel checks have all indicated that, in fact, the Nintendo Wii is in short supply. We believe February numbers reflect entirely on the Wii being supply constrained and has little to do with declining demand of the product.
On Sales:
Sales came in slightly better than we anticipated (privately, we were forecasting down -19%). We believe that PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware sales, which exceeded expectations, contributed to numbers better than we anticipated. Of course, stronger hardware numbers do influence software numbers as PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware purchasers typically purchase at least 1 software SKU attachment.
Just Dance:
WOW. I really hope UbiSoft is working on a Just Dance 2, because a sequel (released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii) could be a huge success. These sales trends are similar to what we seen with Guitar Hero before it reached mainstream success. Just Dance 2 for the Natal, Move, and Wii? Sounds like a good strategy to me.

“I don’t know personally about any project underway regarding Kid Icarus, but if so many of those people are interested in it and really want to see it on the Wii they should really speak up. If we can find some sort of way to bring it to the Wii, a way to make the game for the Wii that makes sense, we would happily do so, but just keep in mind it may not be me making the game.” - Yoshio Sakamoto
So….Sakamoto doesn’t know of any Kid Icarus project underway. That either squashes those rumors we heard awhile back, or Nintendo is keeping some of their best developers out of the loop on this project. Which one do you think is more probable!?

…for 1000 Wii Points ($10), games don’t get much better than this. If you like platformers that tickle your grey matter, you shouldn’t miss NyxQuest. The sights, the sounds, and the interesting puzzles really set the game apart from anything else on WiiWare right now.

Apparently Kensa X was a pretty strange name for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii game about Google search data. Thankfully the Big N has changed the name, but this new title is just about as weird as the first. The new name is “Ando Kensaku”, and when you’re talking in Japanese terms, this name is peculiar as well. All of these names center around the word for ’search’, but all the rest is a mystery!

“I think realism, that’s the key. The ability to see yourself in 3D space, to interact your depth from the screen, your motion, whether it’s a big motion or a subtle motion, the ability to have that motion controller in your hand and do something as subtle as painting or writing and then take that to swinging a golf club, swinging a sword or an axe, and to have that experience feel just like it is. It’s so difficult to describe until you get that ping-pong paddle in your hand. If you’ve played some ping-pong you’ll be good at it… If you’re an expert at our ping-pong game you’re going to be great at the tables, if you’re not good at the tables you’re going to struggle a little bit until you get the hang of it. It’s not just a simple flick of the wrist where you can fake it and I think we’ve all seen other games where you think you’re a great golfer so you’ll be great at motion gaming golf and you suck, [or] you think you’re great at motion gaming golf and you think that makes you a good golfer and you can’t. There’s going to be a pretty good translation here. If you’re good at fighting or swinging weapons you’re probably going to be pretty good at our motion gaming.” - SCE America boss, Jack Tretton
Man, taking jabs left and right at the Wii! It’s almost like Sony is pretending that whatever the Wii did had no influence on their new direction with the PS3. I don’t think Sony or Microsoft would be heading in the direction of motion without the Wii’s success.

Some of you may remember my “un-live blog” from E3 last year and the special Miyamoto round-table, which was necessary because there was no wi-fi. This year at GDC, the session rooms seem to be equipped, but for this session, space was way too cramped for me to hold all 17 inches of Apple computing manliness. So instead, I’m writing up my minute-by-minute notes of the Sakamoto talk and giving them to you in all of their post-mortem glory.

My thrilling seat. Check out my HD cell phone photos.
-
10:25 — Feeling tremors…is this my first earthquake??!?
-
10:25 — Nvm. Just Reggie walking by. I hear babies crying, even though this is supposed to be 18+.
-
10:30 — Sakamoto takes the stand.
-
10:32 — Gives self-introduction; says he is most known for Metroid, but he didn’t create the series; at least not by himself. Admits to not having much of a role or exposure to the Prime series.
-
10:33 — He has done many games, but many seem to be “niche” titles in Japan that never saw North America. In Japan, Metroid is considered a niche title, so it would seem that niche games are his…niche.
-
10:35 — He isn’t taking the lead on Other M (but is definitely involved on deep levels).
-
10:36 — Giving a history of the Metroid series.
-
10:38 — Metroid came so early in his career; he had so little experience as a designer.
-
10:39 — Again, refuses to take credit for giving birth to Metroid. He says the Queen Metroid has that honor.
-
10:39 — Other M immediately follows Super Metroid and precedes the Fusion games.
-
10:39 — Tells about how one of the final scenes of Super Metroid where they took control away from the player was the inspiration and the transition to one of the opening cinematics of Other M.
-
10:40 — Showing a video with the two games inter-cut for continuity. Wish I could get direct feed of this!
-
10:41 — Now talking about WarioWare series. Again humbly refuses credit for its creation.
-
10:42 — One of the early/test versions of WarioWare, Iwata thought it was “idiotic”.
-
10:43 — WW DIY trailer.
-
10:46 — Sakamoto made a Metroid-themed DIY microgame and is showing it off.
-
10:47 — Says his Metroid microgame will be coming to NA; hopes it can help get people excited about Other M
-
10:48 — Talking about Tomodachi Collection, or “Tomo Kore” for short in Japan. Not a game he can explain in words, so he’ll come back to it later.
-
10:49 — Describing “Famicom Tantei Kurabu”, a Japan-only collection of detective stories that he wrote the scenarios. A horror/suspense title.
-
10:50 — Balloon Fight: Iwata was the programmer. Shows a hilarious graphic depicting he vs Iwata at a conference table with duelling thought bubbles. Iwata was thinking practical, mathematical solutions, Sakamoto was picturing icons of animals as variables in a math equation. Something like a bird + turtle / sheep. And 3×2=7?
-
10:52 — Onto the business at hand… What to talk about? Iwata suggested he explore the secret to being able to produce such polar opposite titles like Metroid and the WarioWare series, which he dubs games with either a “Serious-” or “Comedy-Touch”.
-
10:52 — Sakamoto thinks Iwata is just surprised that he can even make a serious game (he’s a little wacky side).
-
10:53 — Sakamoto derives a lot of inspiration from movies, especially director Dario Argento’s work. Specifically, “Deep Red” has influenced him the most. He admires Argento’s technique to control the user experience using mood, timing, contrast and foreshadowing. His use of progressive rock to build suspense is the most effective he’s ever seen.
-
10:56 — After being influenced by so many (especially cult) movies, he noticed himself having strange daydreams.
-
10:56 — Other strong movie influences: Luc Besson (Leon: The Professional), John Woo (Better Tomorrow series), and Brian de Palma (Carrie)
-
10:58 — Film opened his eyes about how to bring stories to life.
-
11:00 — Loves comedy. He’s not a comedian, so it requires a lot of time to refine the experience he wants users to have. He noticed comedy requires the same elements of control to communicate to users: mood, timing, contrast, and foreshadowing.
-
11:03 — So what is the difference between producing such wildly different games? Nothing at all.
-
11:04 — Again says Tomodachi Collection can’t be described in words, so he shows a video.
-
11:04 — Headbanging, spastic Iwata. Reggie nude save for a grass skirt, doing a hula dance. OMG this is bats**t insane…and totally awesome! I NEED direct feed of this!
-
11:07 — Tomo Kore was actually 9 years in the making, a game called “Grown Woman’s Fortune-Telling Notebook” opened the door…not much explanation how/why.
-
11:07 — Mii Channel was actually born from the character creation, etc. found in Tomo Kore. Iwata stole the dev team away for a year so Miyamoto could use them and their character tools to create the Mii Channel.
-
11:04 — Talking about Metroid Fusion, how he had a little different role. Not just the Producer, but wrote the story. A character in Other M, Adam Malkovich, makes kind of foreshadowing appearance in Fusion, in a way.
-
11:04 — One non-negotiable for Other M was that the game had to be played with the Wiimote in NES style. Team Ninja pushed back and wanted to add the nunchuk, but he didn’t budge.
-
11:17 — Instead, they went back to the drawing board and came back with what they called the “Famicom Game PLUS” control style. Sakamoto said it was absolutely perfect, and surprised nobody had done it before.
-
11:18 — Says his [iMovie] skills editing videos of his son helped in planning some of the scenes and transitions for Other M; wanted the transitions from game to cinematic to be flawless.
-
11:18 — Cited director Ryuzi Kitaura with great storyboarding help, and Kuniaki Haishima with the music composition.
-
11:24 — Calls the amalgamation of Nintendo, Team Ninja, and the countless other partners, “Project M”; they’re like a band where each entity plays its own instrument.
-
11:25 — As a final anecdote, told about how a woman loved one of his games so much that she hand-made him some chocolates…(This is a valentine tradition in Japan). This made him realize that people really can be moved by games, and it makes him more passionate than ever to deliver truly moving experiences, regardless of tone.
-
11:30 — Time to head out. I’m on the hunt for cookies.
Thanks for joining.. be back later with some impressions! —cortjezter

Leading videogames publisher Rising Star Games, today confirms that No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, is on track to be released throughout Europe at the end of April 2010.
Soaked in slick graphic novel-style visuals, No More Heroes 2 is clever, mature and further validates the series’ reputation as one of the most original and unique games on the Wii. The story follows Travis Touchdown who now finds himself the 51st ranked assassin – placed at the bottom of the UAA (United Assassins Association) table. He has to fight his way back to the top, while seeking revenge for the murder of his best friend.
Legendary developer Suda 51 is naming No More Heroes 2 the game he’s always wanted to make – playing on the original’s strengths – complete with smart storyline, refined combat (utilising two beam katanas) and characters, and red blood. Lots and lots of red blood.
“The first No More Heroes game fast built a reputation as a benchmark in the Wii’s capabilities, and was brave and bold enough to stand out from the crowd as an antidote to the glut of party games on the market for the console,” says Martin Defries, managing director, Rising Star Games. “It was one of the few games on the Wii that truly deserved the undivided attention of gamers across all formats and No More Heroes 2 promises to take this to the next level.”
Accolades for a new IP on the Wii were impressive too. NGamer scored the original No More Heroes 94%, Edge awarded it 9/10, GamesMaster and GamesTM scored it 90%, and Official Nintendo Magazine gave it 88%.
In the US, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle continues to live up to the series’ expectations.
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle launches throughout Europe on Nintendo Wii at the end of April.
* Fight your way back up to the number one rank against 50 of the most original, deadly and downright crazy assassins you will ever see.

Is Zelda Wii going to make it out before 2010 passes us? Things are actually looking good for that outcome! We know that Metroid: Other M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are hitting in just a few months, which leaves the holiday season completely open. Nintendo isn’t talking about the second half of the year until E3. Could we see the Vitality Sensor and Zelda Wii as the one-two punch from Nintendo?
