People just can’t leave well enough alone! Do we really need to start talking about Wii 2 already? The first Wii isn’t that old, third parties are finally getting a grasp on the system, and it’s selling like crazy! When a platform moves more than 2 million units in one month…in one country…I think thinking of a successor is a little premature. Still, that’s the nature of the gaming industry beast. We get one new platform, and soon enough, we start thinking about when the next one will come out. The author of the article below seems to think that 2010 will be the year of the Wii 2.

I’d say that WiiWare had a pretty successful first year in 2008. There were a number of standout titles, with a select few ending up on best-of-2008 lists. Now that developers have a much better idea of what to do with the service, I think we’ll start seeing even more quality content come our way. Will we get a Mega Man 10 this year? How about a sequel to LostWinds? What does Nintendo themselves have in-store for the service?

A portion of a NintendoWorldReport review…
Maboshi’s Arcade is another in the line of quirky Nintendo-published WiiWare games with simple controls and great gameplay. Even though the difficulty is high, the variety amongst the three games and its DS Download Play make this title great.

2D BOY takes it as compliment, honored that world of goo has crept this far into mainstream awareness (also derives sick pleasure from industry bigwig’s indignant, self-righteous incredulity) - 2D Boy statement
I sure did lose a lot of respect for Peter Moore when he voiced his opinion of Eurogamer’s top 50 list. He basically bashed World of Goo’s placement on the list, even though Mr. Moore has never played the game. I’m terribly sorry Peter, but there is way more praise to be thrown towards the wonderfully original World of Goo than their is for the millionth installment of a sports franchise.

This is a never-ending conversation. Week by week, people argue over the Virtual Console. Sometimes, we see quality titles released on the service. Other times, we think we’ll never get away from the horrible content that finds its way onto the Wii Shop Channel. Lately, it seems like things might be taking a turn for the worse. Yesterday’s Kirby release was a bit of a bright spot, even if it’s not the best game in the series. Is that title going to be our one VC game to enjoy in all of January?

Go Nintendo Wii News
In particular, it reveals an internal strife between Sonic Team and Sega of Japan, highlighted by the fact that NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was originally developed as an Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 title - going so far as to say he (Ben Andac) played an Xbox 360 build of NiGHTS at one point. Upon witnessing the overnight success of the Wii, Sega of Japan apparently forced Sonic Team to retool the game for Nintendo’s lower-spec platform, something its producer (Takashi Iizuka) was not happy about. Despite the shift in platform, the game’s fast-approaching release date and limited development budget remained firmly unchanged, giving Sonic Team roughly one year to rebuild NiGHTS exclusively for the Wii (when most games typically take two years or more to develop). - tssznews.com
I can definitely see the story as plausible. NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams wasn’t exactly a AAA quality game. It wasn’t the horrible mess that some claimed it to be, but it could have been much better. The explanation above would point to why the quality was lower than what most were hoping for.
The rest of the article goes on to discuss the serious issues that Sonic Team has with game development, how they’ve lost their passion for creating games, and how they’ve run the Sonic series into the ground…a topic I am sure that many of you are very familiar with.

“Interactive toys like the Wii and other electrical items were the main items refunded this year.” - Lynn Semjaniv, Target
Hmmm…that’s a bit of a strange gift to return, don’t you think? Maybe some people see the gift as something that’s too expensive to maintain use with, considering the future purchase of games. Than again, maybe people would just rather get a remote controlled airplane instead.

A portion of a Gamasutra interview with producer Minoru Nakai…
GS: Most often, companies make distinctly different versions of a game for Wii than they’d have for the PS3 or Xbox 360 — as you said, it basically has to become a remake. What other changes did you have to make to the game in bringing it over to the Wii?
MN: For this one, of course the foremost [goal] is making the Wii Remote control fun for users. That was a big thing. The other thing was also making it easier to use and control, for even casual players. We’ve also included difficulty levels, so you can choose Easy, Normal, and Hard. Those are some new additions to the game that we’ve made.

Sandy Beach…what an odd game. It seems a bit unfinished…almost like it’s missing something. Who knows, maybe this game will click with another type of gamer. I am into casual experiences, but this one seems almost too casual for casual gamers.

A portion of a DarkZero review…
…it is possible the game could become a cult hit down the line, much like what happen with the Ouendan series a few years back, as there is certainly enough interesting content on show to pique the interest of a few people in the west. At the very least, the game’s main theme is one of the most catchy heard in years, that has to be worth a few plaudits.

A portion of a CheatCC review…
If the game were cleaned up and offered as a WiiWare title for about $5-10, it would be a good value for fans of the Neopets “thing”m but at $40 it’s bound to leave most folks with buyer’s remorse.

A portion of a WiiWare-World interview with Daniel Coleman of Semnat Studios…
WW: Can you tell us more about the 4 player co-op play? Is there any interaction between the good guys?
DC: Oh yes. Interacting with your teammates is a huge part of what sets Eduardo apart from other games in the genre. You can throw any enemy, teammate, or projectile in the game. You can throw enemy projectiles at your teammate if you want. You can throw each other off of rocket packs and scooters. There have been times during testing where we’ve spent several minutes in one single spot just messing with each other. If you’ve played the Four Swords games you’ll get a rough idea. We were inspired by the interaction in those two games. There are also little “meta games” that come from that. Like tossing a timed-explosion durian at each other in a game of hot potato. Not mini games, but unplanned interactions that happened during gameplay.
WW: When do you expect that Eduardo the Samurai Toaster will be unleashed on WiiWare and how much should it cost?
DC: We hope to be able to release it before April. As for cost, we don’t know yet. We’d like it to be as affordable as possible.

A spoof story from the Landover Baptist Church website…
Pastor Deacon Fred issued an official press release earlier this week forbidding the ownership of Wii game consoles by any member of the Landover Baptist Church or its affiliated ministries. “Ms. Huxton’s daughter, Holly, and her friends will be sent to North Dakota to our sequestered institution for Christian Homemakers and Dementia Ward this Spring,” said Pastor. “We thank God that He has revealed to us what this so-called, “Wii” video game system is really all about, but someone has to be punished for it,” he further stated. “Young ladies are not like men, the Bible teaches us through the story of ‘Eve,’ that their fickle minds are easily led astray by Satan’s trickery. Holly and her friends will be spared further temptation by spending the next three years in isolation. With no electricity, running water, or access to anything that fits between their legs, they will have plenty of time to think about what they did to soil their mother’s reputation and drag our congregation’s good name through the mud!

A new link has popped up on the official Commander site, and it links to a post at Gaijin Games website. You can view the post here, but I’ve also screen-capped it and posted below.
Well, it looks like we have some more insight into the project now. I’m also starting to think that this is big buzz for a WiiWare project. What are your thoughts?
Thanks to Greenyz for the heads up!

OTTAWA - Two women walked into the Putnam Acres Care Center on Sunday evening feigning interest in a job application. When they left, they took more than an application - they also took a popular game system from the main lounge. - LimaOhio.com
Seriously, what in the world is wrong with people. I am really sickened to see that people like this exist. I know that there are others out there that do things that are much, much worse…but that doesn’t make this act any less despicable.

Castlevania Judgment is a game that is easily passed on. Konami would have done better to dedicate its time and resources into making a Castlevania Adventure title that would instill the same memorability that drew us to the franchise so long ago.

As these listings usually go, we don’t have any idea what ‘Time Crisis Strike’ really is. Could it be a new game in the series? What platform will it head to…or is it an arcade release? Will the Wii see yet another lightgun game?

Let me once again say this. We don’t have the official numbers for Wii Sports total sales, but it does look like the Wii title has taken the thrown that’s been held by Super Mario Bros. for so long. For the sake of this post, let’s say that the news is official.
That’s the jumping point for CNET’s Don Reisinger, which seems to be very angry about this situation. He feels that Wii Sports taking the crown from Super Mario Bros. is just plain wrong. Obviously, he feels that Wii Sports isn’t worthy of holding such a prestigious place in game history. How do you feel about the situation?
