Guilty Party is one of those exceptional diversions, which exhibited the capacity to enthrall a thirty-something male just as much as my twelve and six year-old nieces. Although solitary players won’t experience the game’s well-engineered rivalries, Wii-owning households are encouraged to bask in the title’s charms.

The multiplatform Wii/PS3 release of Sengoku Basara 3 has set a series record, according to Capcom. The pair of release have topped 500,000 in shipments, which is a first for the series. On top of that, the entire series has now racked up 2.1 million units in sales. While the Wii version lags behind the PS3 version in total sales, this sales goal would not be possible without the Wii’s contributions.

“We remain convinced that the popularity of online multiplayer gaming has caused a decline in overall packaged product sales, and we expect this decline to persist unless the publishers change the multiplayer model. While we expect the publishers to continue to offer free multiplayer content that is similar in quality to what is offered today; we expect the publishers to channel their efforts on improvements to multiplayer by offering a premium subscription service, in the hopes of driving an ever- increasing number of customers to a pay service.” - Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter

Pachter loves talking about the multiplayer issue and how the industry needs to better monetize online play. This is Pachter’s new Wii HD argument. He’s going to bring this up every time someone talks to him!

Here’s something rather interesting. Nintendo has, for whatever reason, decided to launch Thruspace: High Velocity 3D Puzzle with a free demo. This is the very first time that a game has hit the WiiWare service alongside a free demo. We’ve seen game demos on WiiWare before, but never the same day that a game launches. Let’s hope this is the start of a new trend for the Big N!

Go Nintendo Wii News: Inafune - Japanese devs can’t survive without Western help, sees Wii as a communication tool

IGN: Do you think that working with Western developers is something that Japanese publishers and developers should do more?

Keiji Inafune: With regards to Japanese publishers, unless they go down that route I don’t think they can survive in the current climate, the economy we’re in now. Having said that, you’re not going to be able to succeed if you do it in a half-hearted way. You really have to give it 100%, because on both sides, you’ve got your way of dealing with things, that’s human nature, we are selfish creatures to start with. So you have to handle things with mutual respect and learn from each other, and without that attitude from both sides, the project is not going to succeed.

I’m thinking aloud here – I think I can do it, now, having had experience with Western developers, but I’m not quite sure if the others are ready to go along that road. And if they can’t… well, good, we’re going to win.

IGN: What excites you most about the games industry right now?

Keiji Inafune: For me, it’s co-op gaming and multiplayer. It’s an excuse for me to play with my son, in front of the family. It can be a communication tool. I’ve played Halo, Resident Evil 5 and Wii Sports with him, so in my extremely busy schedule, being able to play with my son in co-op mode is very exciting.

While there are a few things worth complaining about in “Batman The Brave and the Bold The Videogame,” for the most part, the good far outshine the bad. The game is a tight, fun experience that holds very true to the source material.
